About us
Culturecon at Home explains household money in the UK slowly and plainly: pensions, savings, property and the everyday protections behind bills and card payments.
What we do
Many money decisions come round only once or twice in a lifetime: turning a pension into an income, renewing a mortgage, helping a grandchild save. The rules behind them are published, but scattered across GOV.UK, regulators and industry bodies. We bring them together in long-read explainers that set out how things work, what the trade-offs are and what to check, with links to the official source for every figure.
We write for adults managing a household, many of them nearing or in retirement. We avoid jargon where we can and explain it where we cannot.
How we write and check articles
- Every figure comes from an official or primary source, such as GOV.UK, HMRC, legislation.gov.uk, the Financial Conduct Authority, the Financial Ombudsman Service or the Bank of England, and is linked at the end of the article.
- Worked examples and tables use invented people and example rates. They are labelled as illustrations and are never a promise of what anyone will receive or pay.
- Each article shows the date on which it was checked. Rules change, and we update articles when they do.
- Articles are written and edited by the Culturecon at Home editorial team. We do not invent named authors.
What we do not do
We do not sell financial products, recommend specific providers, take applications or charge fees. We are not a government website and are not connected with HMRC, the DWP, the Financial Conduct Authority or any bank, lender or pension provider. Nothing on this site is personal advice.
Who publishes the site
Culturecon at Home is a sponsored information site published by OST Consulting OÜ, a private limited company registered in Estonia (registry code 12359479, VAT number EE102834705). That is why every page carries the notice “Advertisement · Sponsored content by OST Consulting OÜ”. Full company details are in the imprint.
